Cosmetic chin surgery, or mentoplasty, is a surgical procedure to reshape the chin. Most often, the shape of the chin is changed by augmenting the chin by using an implant, although advancing the chin may often accomplish the same results. Less commonly, a chin is made smaller by performing reduction surgery on the bone. A smaller-than-normal chin can accentuate the size of the nose and may make the neck appear fleshy. Sometimes during a consultation, Dr. Monhian may discuss the option of chin augmentation to a patient who is planning to undergo a rhinoplasty. This is done in order to achieve better facial harmony, as the size of the chin may magnify or minimize the perceived size of the nose.
